Review Policy

Paper Ink & Lizard is a blog for reviewing clean fiction for all audiences, although I would prefer not to review books for children under middle grade. However, I will make exceptions if asked. As a Christian, I prefer to read books that are clean and do not contain excessive amounts of blood, gore, sensuality, or swearing. While I am okay with reading books containing LGBTQ+ characters, I would rather not, especially if it involves romantic relations.

My preferred genres include; Christian Fiction, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Fairytale Retelling, Historical Fiction, Gaslamp Fantasy, Steampunk, Mystery, Classics, and while it is not my preferred genre, Contemporary. I will read anything from Middle-grade, Young Adult, and New Adult to Women’s Fiction, Graphic Novels, and Non-Fiction*. I am not overly fond of the genre Romance, but I will read it, depending on the book’s description and content. I am also okay with reading books written by authors of another faith, like Judaism, Muslim, and Catholicism. Please, no Paranormal, Torrid Romance, Horror, or Grimdark Fantasy. The only time I would make an exception for Paranormal is if it were Christian. Sorry.

My preferred book format is paperback, or hardback, although I will read e-books. If I do accept to read an e-book, my preferred format is mobi or PDF. However, I am cutting back on the number of e-books I read because the constant screen time gives me a headache, and because physical copies look better in pictures and are easier for me to photograph.

I will read books that are self-published, indie press published, author-owned press published, and traditionally published. I don’t discriminate books based on publishing platform.

If you would like for me to review your book, follow the guidelines on the Contact page. There is no monetary fee for my reviews, though me receiving a free copy of the book is considered payment enough. I am open to any and all requests, as long as it fits within my guidelines and my to-be-read pile is not overwhelming.

All reviews are honest, even when I am unable to connect with, or enjoy the book as I previously thought. I do try, however, to be kind with my reviews, as well as honest, by not putting a harsh light on the flaws and turning the attention of the reader to the good parts.

All reviews done by Paper Ink & Lizard will be posted on Goodreads, Instagram, and Twitter, and hopefully in the future, on Amazon and other commercial sites where books are sold. All reviews are unbiased and written from a writer’s point of view. As according to the FTC guidelines, all books received free of charge or before their publication will be noted as such.

Just a note, as of June 2020, I have started to use the Book Roast CAWPILE Rating System when rating my reviews. Please follow the link for more information. Below is an illustration as to what each of my ratings means:

Five Dragons – In love with it

Four Dragons – Really enjoyed it

Three Dragons – Enjoyed it

Two Dragons – Liked it

One Dragon – Didn’t really like it

I review books for Prism Book Tours, YA Bound Book Tours, JustRead Tour, MTMC Tours, NetGalley, and BookSirens.

*Non-Fiction I will read: memoirs, horse encyclopedias/instruction books, devotionals, biographies, true crime, and books on the writing craft

As of October 2020 I am once again accepting review requests! However, this is only for hardcopy/physical books, and review time might take a bit as I have recently been accepted as a contributor for The Nerd Daily and will be busy. Thank you for your patience!
